Mumbai, May 27: The controversy around Don 3 has deepened after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees issued a non cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh for reportedly walking out of the film. A day after the directive, FWICE chief adviser Ashok Pandit claimed that the federation had tried several times to contact the actor to resolve the matter, but he did not attend any meeting.
Speaking to ETimes, Pandit said the federation had sent three invitations to Ranveer Singh, but received no response. According to him, the actor sent an email only after he came to know that FWICE was planning to hold a press conference. Pandit said Ranveer’s team stated in the mail that the matter did not fall under the federation’s jurisdiction.
Pandit said FWICE would now wait and discuss the issue with the producers’ body and other industry associations before deciding the next course of action. He also suggested that it would have been better if Ranveer had agreed to sit with the makers and the team to find a solution, as the issue needs closure so that people connected with the project can continue working.
Ranveer Singh was officially announced as the new Don in 2023, taking forward the popular franchise earlier associated with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. The announcement video had created strong buzz online, but the project later faced delays and uncertainty.
According to several online reports cited in the ABP Live article, Ranveer reportedly exited the film due to creative differences with the makers. A Free Press Journal report claimed that the actor wanted the character to be presented in a more intense and aggressive manner, with stronger language and more violence, while filmmaker Farhan Akhtar allegedly wanted to stay closer to his original vision for the franchise.
The matter has now become more than a casting controversy. With FWICE entering the issue, the dispute has taken an industry level turn. While there has been no detailed public response from Ranveer Singh on the federation’s latest claims, the coming days may decide whether the matter is resolved through dialogue or escalates further within Bollywood’s production and workers’ bodies.
