New Delhi: A proposed peace agreement between Iran and the United States appears to have hit a major roadblock after US President Donald Trump reportedly placed three fresh and stringent conditions before Tehran. According to a News24 report, the agreement, which was expected to reduce long standing tensions between the two countries, is now facing uncertainty over its timeline.
The first major condition relates to the expansion of the ceasefire framework through the Abraham Accords. Trump has reportedly demanded that key Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Jordan, should sign the Abraham Accords as part of the wider peace arrangement. However, the report says these countries are not currently ready to establish formal diplomatic or official relations with Israel, making this demand one of the biggest hurdles in the negotiation process.
The second point of dispute is Iran’s nuclear programme and its stockpile of enriched uranium. Earlier, both sides had reportedly discussed a 30 to 60 day window to resolve this sensitive issue. However, Trump is now said to be pressing for an immediate final decision, a position that has made Iran uncomfortable.
The third and most direct condition concerns the future of Iran’s enriched uranium. Trump, in a social media post cited by the report, took a hard line and said Iran must either immediately hand over all its enriched uranium to the United States or destroy it completely in coordination with Washington. This demand has further complicated the diplomatic process.
The proposed agreement had reportedly taken shape after months of diplomatic efforts. It was being seen as a possible breakthrough in efforts to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran. However, the fresh conditions have brought the talks to a difficult stage, with both sides now facing pressure over how much ground they are willing to concede.
The Abraham Accords condition also adds a wider regional dimension to the issue. If accepted, it would not only affect Iran and the United States, but could also reshape diplomatic alignments involving Israel and several Muslim majority countries. At the same time, the uranium issue remains central to Iran’s strategic concerns and America’s security demands.
