New Delhi, May 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a crucial meeting of the Union Council of Ministers at Seva Teerth, where he reviewed the functioning of various ministries and underlined the need for faster, simpler and more result oriented governance.
The meeting, which lasted nearly four and a half hours, came soon after the Prime Minister returned to India following his five nation visit. According to sources, PM Modi asked ministers and officials to give top priority to public interest and ensure that government work moves without unnecessary delay.
The Prime Minister reportedly stressed that files should not keep moving from one table to another without purpose. He asked departments to simplify procedures and focus on completing more work in less time. He also said that the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 is not just a slogan, but a commitment to the people of the country.
During the review, PM Modi is learnt to have advised ministries that were weak in performance ranking to improve their functioning. He asked his colleagues not to remain stuck in comparisons with the past, but to concentrate on what can be achieved in the coming years.
Presentations were made by nine departments, including agriculture, forest, labour, road transport, corporate affairs, external affairs, commerce and power. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also briefed the Council about the Prime Minister’s recent foreign visit.
The Council of Ministers also congratulated PM Modi for his successful five nation tour and the party’s major victory in the West Bengal Assembly election.
