Ahmedabad: Dairy giant Amul has announced a nationwide increase in milk prices by ₹2 per litre across all major variants, with the revised rates coming into effect from May 14. The move is expected to impact household budgets already burdened by rising food inflation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday night, Amul said the price revision had become necessary due to the continuous rise in input costs, including cattle feed, transportation and procurement expenses. The company added that it had also increased payments to milk producers in recent months.

Following the latest revision, Amul Gold milk will now cost ₹69 per litre, while Amul Taaza and Amul Shakti will also become costlier by ₹2 per litre in several markets across the country. The revised rates will apply across all states where Amul products are sold.

Company officials said the increase represented only a small percentage of the overall retail price and was aimed at ensuring fair compensation to dairy farmers. “The price hike is being implemented due to the increase in overall operational and production costs,” the company stated.

The development comes at a time when milk consumption usually rises during the summer season, especially in urban areas. Industry experts believe other dairy brands could also revise their prices in the coming weeks following Amul’s decision.

This is not the first milk price revision by Amul in recent years. Rising fodder costs, fuel prices and logistics expenses have repeatedly forced dairy cooperatives to adjust retail prices. Consumers, however, fear that the latest increase may further affect monthly household expenses.
