Lucknow: The sudden death of Prateek Yadav, son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has left political circles in Uttar Pradesh in shock. Amid growing speculation surrounding his demise, doctors who had been treating him revealed that the 38-year-old had been battling multiple serious health complications in recent months.
Dr Ruchita Sharma, Associate Director of Medicine at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow, said Prateek Yadav had been undergoing treatment for hypertension, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism. She described him as a “very good patient” who followed medical advice and took his medicines regularly.
“He was a very nice patient. I am really feeling very bad right now,” Dr Sharma said while recalling his treatment. According to her, Prateek had recently developed pulmonary embolism, a critical condition in which blood clots block arteries in the lungs, affecting heart function as well.
Doctors said Prateek had been admitted to Medanta Hospital on April 29 after cardiac complications were detected during consultation. He was reportedly on blood thinners and blood pressure medication. However, sources said he later left the hospital against medical advice after a brief admission.
Initial post-mortem findings revealed that Prateek Yadav died due to “cardiorespiratory collapse caused by massive pulmonary thromboembolism”. Reports also mentioned the presence of several ante-mortem injury marks on the body, prompting further examination.
Prateek Yadav, husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav and half-brother of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, passed away in Lucknow early Wednesday morning. His last rites will be performed on Thursday at Pipra Ghat.
