Lucknow/Chenna: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has triggered fresh political discussion after posting an emotional message in support of the DMK-Congress alliance and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following the dramatic Assembly election results in Tamil Nadu and Bengal.
In a social media post that quickly went viral, Akhilesh wrote that “true friends do not abandon each other in difficult times,” a remark widely interpreted as a message of solidarity with M. K. Stalin and opposition allies after the DMK suffered a major setback in Tamil Nadu.
The post came at a time when the INDIA bloc is facing visible cracks after the Congress decided to break its long-standing alliance with the DMK and extend support to actor-politician Vijay and his party TVK in the hung Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Tamil Nadu politics has entered a phase of intense uncertainty after TVK emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats but still fell short of the majority mark. Congress’ decision to support Vijay created tension within the opposition camp and triggered sharp reactions from DMK leaders, who accused Congress of political betrayal.
Against this backdrop, Akhilesh Yadav’s message is being seen as more than just emotional support. Political observers believe the Samajwadi Party chief may be trying to project himself as a leader committed to opposition unity ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
The Assembly election results have dramatically reshaped southern politics, with TVK disrupting the decades-old dominance of DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the BJP’s historic rise in West Bengal has further intensified pressure on opposition parties to remain united despite internal disagreements.
