New Delhi: In one of the most nail-biting finishes of IPL 2026 so far, Gujarat Titans edged past Delhi Capitals by just 1 run in Match 14 at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. The villain of the piece was, remarkably, Gujarat’s own David Miller.
Batting first after losing the toss, Gujarat posted a formidable 210 for 4 in 20 overs. Captain Shubman Gill anchored the innings with a composed 70, while Jos Buttler scored 52 off 27 balls. Washington Sundar accelerated the scoring with 55 off 30 balls at number four, propelling Gujarat to a highly competitive total. For Delhi, Mukesh Kumar took two wickets, while Lungi Ngidi and Kuldeep Yadav took one each.
Chasing 211, Delhi put up a stirring fight. KL Rahul was outstanding, scoring 92 off 52 balls with 11 fours and 4 sixes in a knock that nearly dragged his side over the line. Pathum Nissanka contributed a brisk 41 off 24 balls at the top. David Miller, who had earlier retired hurt, returned to the crease and scored an explosive 41 off 20 balls, keeping Delhi firmly in the hunt.
But it all unravelled in the final two balls. With 2 runs needed off the last 2 deliveries, Miller, in good touch and keen to retain the strike, turned down a single on the penultimate ball. Banking on himself to hit the winning boundary off the last delivery, he managed only a dot ball. The calculation backfired spectacularly.
Gujarat Titans registered their first win of the season, while Delhi Capitals suffered their first defeat.
