New Delhi: Millions of small and marginal farmers across India are eagerly awaiting the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, with reports suggesting a Rs 2,000 direct benefit transfer could be credited to eligible accounts this week.

According to the latest updates, the government is likely to announce the release around March 13, 2026, possibly during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam. The 21st installment was disbursed in November 2025, and, following the typical four-month cycle, the next tranche is expected before the end of the financial year. No official confirmation has come from the Centre yet, but beneficiaries are urged to complete pending formalities to avoid delays.

Under PM-KISAN, eligible landholding farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to support agricultural expenses. To qualify, farmers must own cultivable land as per state records, complete e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer), link their Farmer ID, and ensure land verification. Ineligible categories include families with government employees, income tax payers, or those receiving pensions of Rs 10,000 or more monthly.

The beneficiary list is updated before each release, with many names removed due to non-compliance or discrepancies.

Farmers can check their status on the official PM-KISAN portal (pmkisan.gov.in) by entering details like state, district, and village in the beneficiary list section. The Kisan e-Mitra chatbot on the site also assists with registration and payment queries.

With strict verification ongoing, experts advise immediate action: complete e-KYC via OTP on Aadhaar-linked mobile or at CSC centres to secure the upcoming payment and ensure uninterrupted support under this flagship scheme, which empowers crores of farmers.
