Colombo: Dramatic shifts in the points table following key matches during the weekend have intensified the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

South Africa’s commanding seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in Ahmedabad has propelled the Proteas to the top of Group D. With three wins from three matches and six points, plus a strong net run rate of +1.477, South Africa became the first team to qualify for the Super 8s. New Zealand slipped to second with four points (two wins, one loss, NRR +0.701), while UAE holds third with two points from two games.

In Group C, England’s win over Scotland boosted them to second place with four points from three matches (two wins, one loss). The West Indies lead with four points from two wins. Ireland secured their first win in Group B against Oman, while no major changes hit Group A yet.

India maintains a perfect record in Group A, having played three matches, won three of them, and amassed six points. India tops the group while Pakistan, after Sunday’s loss to India, is placed third behind USA, with two wins and a loss from three games. Pakistan has one match still remaining against Namibia. USA with two wins from four matches is ahead of Pakistan on net run rate.

Recent results have added intrigue: England’s rise in Group C, Ireland’s breakthrough, and South Africa’s dominance underscore the tournament’s unpredictability.
