Patna: Drama unfolded at the Patna residence of Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, as Bihar Police arrived to arrest him in a 31-year-old civil dispute case dating back to 1995.
The independent MP, known for his fiery activism, faced an arrest warrant issued by the court over allegations of fraudulently renting a house while concealing key facts, including its use as his parliamentary office.
The case originated at Gardani Bagh police station in Patna, where property owner Vinod Bihari Lal lodged an FIR (No. 552/1995) accusing Yadav and others of deceit. Despite initial warrants, the matter escalated recently when the court, three days ago, ordered the attachment (kurki) of property due to non-appearance. The police action at Yadav’s Mandiri home followed this order, aiming to execute the long-pending arrest.
Reacting sharply on social media, Pappu Yadav dismissed the move as politically-motivated retaliation. In a strongly-worded post, he wrote: “We fought for justice for the NEET student, and now Bihar Police’s stomach aches. They came to arrest us at the Patna residence, but Pappu Yadav won’t bow or stay silent. We will expose the dishonest ones! Jail me or hang me, Pappu won’t stop.” He further claimed threats to his life and questioned the urgency, noting the court had summoned him earlier but seeing no reason to appear immediately.
The incident has sparked fresh speculation amid Yadav’s recent vocal campaigns, including demands for probes into sensitive cases.
