Tehran: Iran’s Army Chief, Major General Amir Hatami, has issued a stern warning to the United States, declaring that Tehran views President Donald Trump’s recent rhetoric as a direct threat and will respond without hesitation, amid heightened military readiness.
Addressing military academy students on Wednesday, Hatami asserted, “The Islamic Republic considers statements targeting the Iranian nation as a threat and will not leave it unanswered.” He confidently added that Iran’s armed forces are now “far more prepared than before the war”, vowing an even more decisive response if any enemy errs, while promising to expose aggressors.
The sharp retort follows Trump’s warning that America would aid peaceful protesters if Iran continues violent suppression.
This exchange comes against a backdrop of domestic turmoil, with protests raging for over a week over economic woes, claiming dozens of lives.
Hatami, the first regular army officer in decades to lead the Artesh after Revolutionary Guard dominance, assumed command after the June 12-day war with Israel.
As subsidies roll out to ease inflation burdens, his statements signal Tehran’s defiance amid US sanctions, Israeli threats, and internal challenges.
This verbal escalation risks fuelling a broader confrontation, underscoring fragile Middle East dynamics where external pressures intersect with domestic discontent.
