New Delhi: As 2025 draws to a close, Google’s ‘Year in Search’ report offers a fascinating glimpse into the collective curiosity of over a billion Indians.

Unsurprisingly, cricket emerged as the most popular topic, with the Indian Premier League (IPL) securing the top spot in overall searches, closely trailed by exciting tournaments such as the Asia Cup and ICC Champions Trophy.

However, this year, technology also made a significant impact — Gemini, Google’s AI powerhouse, soared to the second position, indicating India’s swift adoption of artificial intelligence amid a surge of tools such as Grok and DeepSeek.

What truly captured hearts and sparked intrigue was the ‘meaning’ category, where Indians delved deep into unfamiliar terms. Topping the list was ‘ceasefire meaning’, reflecting global tensions, followed by ‘mock drill meaning’ and the endearing slang ‘pookie meaning’. ‘Mayday meaning’ came fourth, but the real surprise was fifth: ‘5201314 meaning’— a numeric code from Chinese internet culture that sweetly translates to “I love you for life”, going viral through reels and shorts, blending romance with cross-cultural charm.

Other notables included tributes to veteran actor Dharmendra, massive interest in the Maha Kumbh Mela, and blockbuster hunts for films like Saiyaara. From practical queries on air quality to viral trends, 2025 searches painted a vibrant picture: a nation passionate about sport, spiritually rooted, tech-savvy, and ever romantic.

As Google notes, this year’s trends mirror a Bharat balancing tradition with tomorrow — cricket unites, AI empowers, and love, even in coded numbers, endures.
