Meerut: In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence that has outraged the city, doctors at a private hospital in Meerut reportedly used Fevikwik super glue to seal a deep wound on a five-year-old boy’s forehead instead of proper stitches, causing a severe burning sensation and leaving the child traumatised.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when young Aryan, son of local resident Rahul Kumar, fell while playing and suffered a deep cut. Rushing to the hospital in Kanker Khera area, the family claims the duty doctor casually applied Fevikwik – commonly used for sticking household items – directly to the wound, telling them it was “quick and effective”.
“The child started screaming in pain the moment they applied it. His skin turned red and blistered,” a distraught Rahul told reporters. When confronted, hospital staff shrugged off concerns, saying “it happens sometimes”.
It was necessary for the family to remove the child after the glue hardened painfully, and then to go to another facility where doctors expressed horror and properly treated the chemical burn. A formal complaint has now been lodged with the Chief Medical Officer, demanding strict action against the hospital and the errant doctors.
Health officials have launched an inquiry, with sources saying the hospital could face licence cancellation if negligence is proven. The case has reignited concerns about quackery and unethical practices in private clinics across Uttar Pradesh.
