New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough, Faridabad police have dismantled a major terror module linked to Jammu and Kashmir, seizing nearly 2,900 kilograms of explosives.
The suspects, including doctors posing as medical professionals, were plotting a large-scale attack across India.
The explosives, along with timers, walkie-talkies, and assault rifles, were confiscated from the villages of Fatehpur Taga and Dhauj. Among those arrested is Dr Mujammil Shakeel, a medical faculty member at Alfalah University, who was detained nine days ago.
Authorities also took into custody a Maulana connected to a house rented in Dhauj, where 360 kilograms of ammonium nitrate were found.
An additional 2,563 kilograms of suspected explosives were recovered from a house in Fatehpur Taga belonging to Maulana Hafiz Ishtiaq, who is in custody as well. The terror network includes Kashmiri doctors Dr Adil Ahmad Dar, arrested earlier in Saharanpur, and Dr Mujammil. Another doctor, Muzaffar Ahmed Rather, is believed to have fled to Dubai and may be hiding in Pakistan or Afghanistan.
Dr Shaheen Shahid, a female doctor from Lucknow also arrested in connection with this network, had assault rifles and live ammunition recovered from her vehicle. Investigations are ongoing to determine the specific targets and the full extent of collaboration within the module.
Faridabad Police Commissioner clarified that the seized explosive was ammonium nitrate, not RDX, but equally hazardous. Besides explosives, police recovered ammunition, pistols, and magazines from the suspects. Eight arrests have been made, including doctors, Maulanas, and associates, illustrating the complexity of this terror web.
This module is considered the largest terror plot uncovered in recent years, alarming national security agencies. The successful intervention likely averted a catastrophic attack.
