Panchkula: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has discovered a personal diary belonging to Akil Akhtar, the son of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, which could potentially unravel the mystery surrounding his death.

The journal, handed over by relatives, echoes the haunting revelations Akil made in his social media videos — allegations of drug abuse and deeper personal turmoil that now cast a shadow over his untimely demise in Panchkula.

The diary’s contents have deepened the investigation’s intrigue, with forensic experts scrutinising the handwriting and entries for authenticity. “It’s Akil’s own words, mirroring his online pleas,” revealed SIT head ACP Vikram Nehra, adding that the team is cross-verifying every detail.

While the Viscera report is awaited to pinpoint the exact cause of death, the discovery has highlighted Akil’s two stints at a Patiala de-addiction centre, prompting police to summon its director for intense questioning.

At the crime scene, the team unearthed suspicious items, including narcotics-related paraphernalia, though lab confirmation is pending. However, the story becomes more complex as Akil’s mobile phone and several other electronic devices are still missing, potentially providing crucial clues. “These gadgets could unlock everything,” Nehra noted, as forensics combed through seized evidence.

Notably, the former DGP has not been summoned yet, allowing the family space amid the grief. As SIT delves deeper, the diary’s raw confessions — once dismissed as cries for help — now fuel suspicions of a drug-fuelled tragedy. Will it expose a hidden underbelly in elite circles or seal Akil’s story as a cautionary tale? The nation watches, breathless.
