Mumbai: The much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 will kick off on September 8 in the UAE, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed as the host, following an online meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) recently held a meeting to finalise details for the Asia Cup 2025. Initially, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) had declined to attend the meeting in Dhaka but later participated online. During the meeting, consensus was reached on the tournament’s schedule and hosting arrangements.
The tournament is set to start on September 8 and conclude with the final on September 24. Eight teams will compete, including full members India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. The remaining three spots will be filled by the winners of the ACC Premier Cup: Hong Kong, Oman, and the UAE.
While the matches will be played in the UAE, the BCCI will officially host the event and is expected to release the detailed schedule soon.
Asia Cup 2025 will be played in the T20 format, aligning with the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup. This follows the hybrid model used in the previous edition, where matches were held in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The last Asia Cup in 2023 saw India clinch the title by defeating Sri Lanka in the final held at Colombo.
In that final, India bowled out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs, with pacer Mohammed Siraj taking six wickets for 21 runs in seven overs, and Hardik Pandya claiming three wickets. India chased down the target in just 6.1 overs, showcasing a dominant performance.
Fans and experts alike have high expectations for Team India in the upcoming tournament, though other participating teams are also expected to pose strong challenges.
