New Delhi: Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about the Election Commission, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra took a jibe. He stated that Rahul Gandhi is doing what he generally does outside the country. Senior Congress leaders will hold press conferences to protect the mother’s son; they will make noise, but the truth is that they would have to face jail for their corrupt practices, said Patra.

Former Union minister Pratap Sarangi, reacting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments abroad, on Saturday swiped at him for defaming the country.

Patra said that Rahul Gandhi had also attempted to tarnish India’s image and the Election Commission in the US. Tearing into Gandhi, he asked how someone out on bail on a 50,000 surety in the National Herald case could be trusted? It will be very difficult for the public to believe you if you speak against your own country’s democracy outside,” he said.

Referring to the ED chargesheet, Patra also said that the chargesheet exposes how properties linked to National Herald were used by criminals for false advertisements. He said money was diverted using bogus ads and mentioned an ₹18 crore bogus ad related to National Herald along with a ₹38 crore advance rent. Further, there was no commercial activity, as companies paid advance rent.

Patra said, “The ₹988 crore case is unresolved, on which Rahul Gandhi defames the country abroad.” Referring to Rahul without naming him, he cited the Congress leader making statements against the Lok Sabha, commenting if it was a fair institution. Patra said recent elections in Jharkhand and Priyanka Gandhi’s victory were a reply to the Congress chief. He suggested that if Rahul claimed the Election Commission was compromised, then the Congress chief should answer whether these elections too were influenced by the Election Commission.

Patra said that by attacking India and its democracy on foreign soil, Rahul was committing treason. He added that both the son and the mother would have to pay for it someday. He said ED would not let them go and they would land behind bars soon.

Rahul Gandhi Alleges at Boston University

In an address given at Boston University, Rahul Gandhi once again repeated his allegations against the Election Commission: “The Election Commission and the political parties have come to an agreement and that is the reason behind the results.” Based on anomalies in the figures of poll percentage in Maharashtra, he questioned the numbers provided by the Election Commission, particularly the sudden increase in voting percentage, calling it impossible.
