Groom Took Bride Home In Bullock Cart, Accepted Dowry, Planted

Ghaziabad: Amidst the era of lavish weddings, a simple yet unique marriage in Ghaziabad made headlines. Though most would-be grooms head back home with elaborate send-offs in helicopters or luxury cars, this groom decided to go humble all the way home—in a bullock cart. Instead of cash or valuables as part of the dowry, the groom’s family accepted 11,000 plants as a dowry, making this wedding unique.

The wedding in question is that of Survinder Kisan, an environmental activist from Raispur village in Ghaziabad. The ten vows exchanged at the ceremony and his wedding invitation have gone hassle-free on social sites. We created the ceremony to spread the message of minimalism, sustainability, and social change.

Rather than sticking to the conventional dowry, Survinder and his family received saplings in the name of protecting the environment. People have referred to this eco-friendly approach an initial step in raising awareness regarding sustainability. The newlywed couple also took an unusual ten vows instead of seven, including a commitment to being socially responsible and protecting the environment.

He encouraged people to avoid extravagance and contribute something worthwhile to society, saying his prescription was to have a simple wedding. He feels that such initiatives will help a lot in triggering change and inspiring the young generation to take sustainable actions.

The wedding was attended by several close political and social personalities, including former BJP mayor Ashu Verma, social activist Richa Sood, and Congress leader Dolly Sharma. This further enhanced the uniqueness and significance of this wedding, which is regarded as nothing less than a revolution.
