Punjab: After losing the New Delhi constituency in the Delhi Assembly elections, rumors about the next political action of Arvind Kejriwal, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, are growing. According to reports, he might join the Rajya Sabha from Punjab; sources indicate that Sanjeev Arora, the MP of AAP from Punjab, might resign his post for him.
Punjab is the only state where AAP possesses Rajya Sabha seats and is in authority, hence it is a reasonable place for Kejriwal’s possible parliamentary presence. Although there is no official confirmation, conversations on social media site X point to six AAP Rajya Sabha members offering to quit in order to support Kejriwal’s decision. Should he find a seat, he might use the Upper House forum to promote important concerns pertaining to Delhi and Punjab. Still, such a choice might fundamentally change Punjab’s political scene.
Just a few years ago, Punjab-born AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora entered politics. At 61, he is also a successful entrepreneur having founded Ritesh Industries Limited, an export company with Virginia, USA operations. Apart from that, he has been closely involved in creating a sophisticated industrial park in Ludhiana and connected to Suzuki Motors Gujarat under the “Make in India” campaign. Having started the women’s clothes brand Femella Fashion Limited, his business portfolio also includes the fashion and iron and steel sectors.
Apart from his commercial activities, Arora operates the Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust, which offers medical aid to breast cancer sufferers and is highly committed in philanthropy. His family consists in his wife, son, and daughter. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided his house last year, thereby subjecting him further public attention.
