Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has been installed as the caretaker and will continue to hold office until a new government is sworn in. Some are trying to see if they can set up a state government again. If parties like the NPP, JDU and other smaller parties stake their claim to the government, they could at least be offered a chance, if not a full opportunity, to form one, it is believed. But if the prospects for creating a new government do not appear in a week or 10 days at the most, the central government would impose President’s Rule in Manipur, they said.

N. Biren Singh submitted his resignation as the Chief Minister on Sunday. He had also gone to Delhi and met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda. On his return to Manipur, he called on the Governor and submitted his resignation. Singh will remain in that position until a new Chief Minister takes over or a new government is formed.

The president’s rule in the state is being speculated, with the situation in Manipur making it doubtful that any party will come forward to form a government. Regardless of whether smaller parties could cobble together a government, the violence will not be easy to resolve, and the killing may continue in the state; at least it would take time to restore normalcy. Regarding peace, the new government must collaborate with the central government. Therefore, no party has come forth until now to form a new government.
