Hyderabad: Two neighbors in Mir Bagh Colony in Nalgonda city, Telangana, have taken their dispute to the police. Because both families claim the cat, they said they’re unsure how to handle the dispute. A forensic investigation has now been launched to determine who owns the cat.
Pushpalata, a Mir Bagh Colony resident, has a fondness for cats. Eleven months ago, she adopted a month-old kitten as milky white as dream clouds and called it Shafi. Pushpalata and her family had searched for this cat since last June when it went missing. About a week ago, my sister and her husband saw a brown cat similar to Shafi in the neighbor’s house. Pushpalata’s family came to claim it, thinking it was their cat who had got lost.
Pushpalata managed to trap the cat on February 2 and brought it home. Her neighbor Ashraf, however, said that the cat belonged to him and had been one of his six cats. Ashraf had captured my cat, Pushpalata, and changed its color. “I know my cat by sight.” No, you cannot trick me by coloring it,” she said,
Things escalated, and Pushpalata approached the police station with a complaint on February 15. However, she later complained that police were “doing nothing” about it. Later, the district police superintendent ordered a “cat panchayat” between the two groups to settle the matter.
Officers have since taken the cat to the station and called both families in to piece together exactly what happened. The police are conducting a forensic investigation to establish the cat’s owner. A hair sample from the cat has been taken and sent to a forensic laboratory by a veterinary officer. It said a report would take two to three days, after which the valid owner of the cat would be found.
