Revolutionising Employee Services: Direct Online Updates Introduces EPFO For Members

NewDelhi: In a major leap to add to its convenience for people, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched new online services that give over 76 million subscribers the opportunity to update their personal details, such as names and dates of birth, without employer verification or EPFO’s approval. Oz owns this facility, and it came online January 18, 2025.

Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced today that approximately 27% of the complaints registered by EPFO members are pertaining to problems in their member profile and KYC (Know Your Customer) details. However, he was optimistic these developments would seriously reduce such complaints.

As per the new scheme, members with Aadhaar-linked EPF accounts can make their EPF transfer claims online by using Aadhaar-based OTP (One Time Password) without the intervention of an employer. The goal of this streamlining is to make the process to fix most common errors in personal details (for example, name, date of birth, gender, nationality, marital status) less complicated.

Earlier, employees used to file requests with supporting documents, which used to be verified by their employers and then sent to the EPFO for approval. The process was often lengthy, with requests taking an average of 28 days, and only 40% of them taking less than five days in FY 2024–25.

A new online facility has enabled members to correct up to 45% of problems instantly using Aadhaar OTP verification. In cases where a Universal Account Number (UAN) was issued prior to October 1, 2017, and is not linked to Aadhaar, the physical submission of a request will still be required for remaining cases.

This reform benefits individual employees, Mandaviya said at a press briefing, while large employers with large workforces no longer need to worry about member data management.

With EPFO modernising its services and becoming more efficient, these changes are expected to really improve the user experience and empower the members using their services to manage their accounts better.
