Mumbai: The Mumbai police said they arrested the man who allegedly took the knife to Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan in a swift and determined operation. The arrest happened in the Thane West area around 2 to 3 am after raids for the last 5 days by a team of 100 police officers.
According to the police, the suspect’s phone was shut off after he committed the attack. But then he returned it back to place a call and shut it back down. According to reports, he was cautious in his escape, covering his face when he passed CCTV cameras. However, police tracked his mobile phone data and got information from Saif’s residence in Bandra, Bandra railway station, and Dadar.
There was a particular mobile number active at all three locations. When the police extracted data from the phone number he dialled, they called the people affiliated with the number and showed them a photo of the suspect. As a labourer, working with them, they identified him.
After this breakthrough, about 30 teams from police departments in various parts of the world were formed to find this suspect. Their efforts finally ended with a raid on a construction site at the rear side of the TCS call centre in Hiranandani Estate, Thane West, where the suspect was traced to a labour camp.
Police said the suspect will be presented before a court shortly before they ask for his remand for further questioning about the incident that has rocked Bollywood and beyond.
