Lucknow: There has been talk of a big-name tie-up between cricket star Rinku Singh and young politician Priya Saroj, but the families involved have denied it. An alleged engagement of Indian cricket star and 25-year-old Samajwadi Party MP from Machhlishahr in Uttar Pradesh is being speculated.
One of India’s youngest parliamentarians, Priya Saroj burst onto the political scene in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. She defeated BJP incumbent BP Saroj by more than 35,000 votes in the fight for the prestigious Machhlishahr constituency, in which she earned 451,292 votes in her maiden electoral outing.
Priya is the daughter of political veteran Tufani Saroj, who is a three-time MP and currently an MLA from Kerakat, and her entry into politics itself was unexpected. Said to have come from a political legacy family, she first carved a career in law. During the pandemic, I was trying to prepare for judgeship exams. Priya had previously revealed in an interview that ‘Even after my ticket was announced, I was still attending online classes.’
Priya, whose birthplace was Varanasi but hailing from Jaunpur district, studied in New Delhi till schooling and pursued her undergraduate studies in arts from Delhi University. Later she completed her LLB from Amity University, Noida, and is preparing for judicial examinations.
Another half of this rumoured couple is Rinku Singh, who needs no introduction to the cricket faithful. A left-handed batsman from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, 27-year-old Samson made headlines in the 2023 IPL season slamming five sixes in an over in the final overs with four balls left to secure an unlikely win for Kolkata Knight Riders against Gujarat Titans.
After that, Rinku has become a solid performer in India’s T20I team with his explosive and finishing skills. The 37-year-old has played 30 T20 internationals in which he has scored 507 runs at an average of 46.09 and a strike rate of 165.15.
However, the families have denied such claims as social media continues to speculate on an imminent wedding. Neither party has released any official statements as regards engagement or marriage.
Both Priya Saroj and Rinku Singh are focusing on their careers as the nation watches with interest. Priya, who has assets declared at 11.25 lakh rupees, is making her way in politics while Rinku is getting ready for the upcoming cricket tournaments, including the England T20I series.
