From Domestic Cricket To Tour Conduct: The 10 Point Plan Of BCCI For Excellence In Cricket

Mumbai:

They are aimed at sorting out worries of discipline and performance that have been raised following the team’s poor performance.

A wide range of issues are covered by the new guidelines, from mandatory participation in domestic cricket to a limit on the number of personal staff a player can take on a tour.

According to the BCCI, it has made clear that non compliance with these rules would invite disciplinary action including possible bans from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and deduction of central contract money.

Key changes include:
Limited family time on tours: Only families of players will be allowed to stay with the team for two weeks on overseas tours.

Mandatory domestic cricket participation: Unless in exceptional circumstances approved by chief selector and head coach, all players must play in domestic matches to stay in national and central contract considerations.

Ban on personal staff: Personal managers, chefs, assistants and security personnel are no longer allowed on tours.

Attendance at practice sessions: Players must stay for all scheduled practise sessions, and cannot leave early.

Restrictions on excess baggage: Baggage limits for players have been set by the BCCI, and the excess, if any, cost is to be borne by the players themselves.

Coordination for sending items to the Centre of Excellence: Any equipment and personal items must be sent to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, for which players must inform team management beforehand.

No commercial shoots during series: Advertising shoots or endorsements during ongoing series or tours, or during the period of one week preceding the beginning of a series or a tour, are forbidden to players.

Travel with the team: Players must travel with the team for and to match and practise sessions except if a permission from the head coach and chief selector is taken.

Mandatory participation in BCCI events: A player must be a registered player to participate in an official BCCI shoot and also events.
Completion of tours: Players have to stay with the team even when matches end earlier than planned as part of a tour.

This is one way of showing that the BCCI is serious about going back to more disciplined and cohesive team culture after disappointments. With these rules, the board aims to rein in player conduct and push the team to focus on winning on the international stage again.
