New Delhi: Just before the end of the year, people all around the world prepare for New Year festivals, and so do the people of Delhi and its visitors. As it remains 365 days to 2024, people are preparing for feasting traditions, which are always rich in food and beverages. For this year, various sources show that there is a massive increase in alcohol consumption, following the party-happy image of the city.
The media source also reveals that about 2.4 million bottles of alcohol were sold in Delhi on December 31, 2023. This, however, is an improvement from the previous year, whereby close to about 2 million bottles were sold in the same one-day consumption. This has coupled with the trend that people consume more alcohol, especially during the new year festivities, as evidenced by yearly incremental increases.
But while people across the globe celebrate, the police will not forget to call the attention of those who would drink and drive. Driving while under the influence of alcohol is unlawful; police are ready to perform breathalyser tests in order to prevent accidents.
The breathalyser tests are very important measures to ascertain whether the driver has taken alcohol. Whenever a person takes a drink, the alcohol goes to the blood and consequently impacts the lungs, creating a smell normally attributed to drunkenness. During exhalation, the stench emanates from the mouth and nose of an individual; it comes out as vapour.
Known as an alcohol-level breathalyser, a breathalyser machine is instrumental in establishing one’s suitability to drive by analysing the amount of alcohol in one’s breath. It typically features three lights: green means it’s safe for him to drive, yellow and red mean the man is drunk. Needless to say, not all models come equipped with lights, but some may indeed give accurate results of the blood alcohol content level.
Just at the beginning of another year of festivities, Delhi officials are on record asking everyone to exercise restraint while festering. This rise in alcohol sales has afforded a good reminder on safety measures to be observed during celebrations, such as the aspect of drinking and driving.
