NewDelhi: “Pushpa-2” screening in Hyderabad ended in a tragedy where a woman died, and actor Allu Arjun got embroiled in a lot of controversies. The incident is not just a topic of ire for the public but has also provoked political issues, with different politicians speaking on it.
On December 4, during the premiere of “Pushpa-2” at the Sandhya Theatre, a stampede erupted with thousands of fans rushing to see Allu Arjun. Ammo. It, a 35-year-old woman, lost her life in the incident. Allu Arjun was blamed after the incident and was harshly criticised that he did not seem to be concerned about it because he was caught smiling amid the chaos.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur came and mentioned the incident as well as the situation, that he remembered Telugu cinema and its actors while making a coarse allusion to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. He said that politics should not be involved in such matters and suggested that they talk and ensure safety rather than arguing and creating controversies.
On the other hand, AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi hit out at the actor and told him off for being relaxed during the incident. He went on to accuse Allu Arjun of breaching safety rules that instead of preventing the chaos led to it. Owaisi’s comments represent wider concerns about accountability in large, well-publicised instances.
Allu Arjun’s reaction
In a press conference, Allu Arjun indirectly said that he was not aware of the stampede beforehand, escorting it only the next morning, which is when he was told what was going on at the conference. He sympathised, and whatever help he was able to provide, he did offer to the family of the victim. Furthermore, he kept on stressing that he had not planned to ignore safety measures.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao also found himself condemning Allu Arjun for showing up to the screening without first receiving police permission, which he affirmed facilitated the tragedy. The CM pointed out that the police had earlier forewarned about the event’s inadequacy on safety reasons.
All of these incidents have actually brought to the fore whether the events were properly handled and whether safety measures were in place in those places where a large number of people attend. While the inquiry is still in process, both fans and detractors are on the lookout for further updates on responsibility and possible changes in organising similar events.
