Spin King Ashwin’s Shocking Retirement: The End Of An Era For Indian Cricket

Brisbane: In a twist of events, Indian off-spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin declared his retirement from cricket right after the end of the Gabba Test versus Australia. The 37-year-old player, who is known for his performance in Test matches, was given only one chance during the current tour in Australia.

After being left out of the starting lineup following the Adelaide Test match in a move by the team management, Ashwin was observed sharing embraces with his Indian colleagues, such as captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, at the Gabba Test match. He also had an extensive discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir before making a startling announcement about his retirement during the post-match press conference.

Throughout a career encompassing 106 Test matches, Ashwin resulted in him taking 537 wickets in total; this includes achieving 37 instances of five-wicket hauls and securing 8 ten-wicket match hauls along the way.
He also snagged 156 wickets in One Day Internationals and 72 wickets in T20 Internationals for a total of 765 wickets under his belt.
Ashwin wasn’t just known for his bowling skills; he made an impression as a batsman too by scoring 3,503 runs in Test matches with 6 centuries to his credit. In his first-class cricket career, he also notched up 8 centuries.

The quickest Indian bowler to achieve milestones such as 50 Test wickets all the way up to 500 Test wickets in record time.
In four instances the only Indian player managed to achieve a century. A five-wicket haul in the same Test match.

He was a player in India’s World Cup-winning squad of 2011 and their triumph in the Champions Trophy in 2013.
