Jhansi: Horrible tragedy has struck the country as a fire engulfs the NICU of Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Ten infants are said to have died in the tragedy and initial inquiries indicated that patients were left in the hands of reckless medical practitioners. In the fire, three people sacrificed themselves to save more than forty children that made three real heroes in this tragedy.
The fire started in the evening as a result of electrical short circuits or sparks; the NICU was on fire. Eyewitnesses described how the fire development occurred quickly; an explosion of an oxygen cylinder exacerbated the situation. According to the facts, 54 and more infants were allegedly accommodated in NICU designed for 18 beds; there were children in one bed – two, three of them.
Kripal Singh Rajput, who also had his daughter in a critical condition at the hospital when the incident occurred, emerged among the first who arrived to the scene. He told a storey to the effect that the fire started at the time when parents were summoned to come and feed their babies. On his own accord, Rajput went into the burning NICU, and tried to evacuate as many babies as was possible.
“I didn’t think twice. As he tailed in and out, he said he evacuated more than 20 children in roughly 15 journeys to the ward.
These brave personification motivated two young men named Kuldeep and Harishankar to save my life. They immediately went into the fire-engulfed room and rescued further 20 infants”. But who did not notice that. The farmers with perfect selflessness and courage protected many people from dying.
“These three could have acted before the carnage in similar manner and the death toll could have reached over 50 as a witness testified.”
Due to that, it has led to political activism. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari strongly criticised the government and the hospital management holding the two responsible for sheer negligence. “This is a sad event which resulted from negligent administration. The extinguishers found were said to have expired and it is totally unacceptable that they could be so careless, Tiwari said, demanding that a thorough probe be conducted immediately.
At the same time, Samajwadi Party’s Juhi Singh demanded the resignation of the Health Minister of the state and attributed the tragedy to the state administration.
The state government has insisted on investigating the cause and circumstances of the fire and how responsible individuals can be brought to book to prevent similar occurrence in future. In the wake of sorrow and anger, Kripal Singh Rajput, Kuldeep and Harishankar are ray of light in one of the saddest storeys the city has seen.
