Chandigarh: The Haryana Minister of the BJP, Anil Vij, has raised serious charges of political mobilisation aimed at his electoral defeat in the Ambala Cantonment Assembly constituency of Haryana. ‘Let[s] they try,’ Vij, who only recently became victorious in the assembly election, said local authorities tried to do everything to ensure he does not win; including threats on his life and those of the BJP workers during the campaigns.
“A lot of attempts were made by the administration to defeat Anil Vij,” he said. More research is required to establish on whose behest all these undertakings were conducted. Of course, I am not pointing fingers at anyone now, but existing construction projects that had been deemed acceptable by the municipality were stopped mid-way through, including roads under construction. Some of these works were approved but were later suddenly postponed during the election period. There were no new tenders for them to bid on, yet work on projects was terminated while it could have been done without failing the code of conduct more especially the Leaked invoices.
Vij then continued and state that disruptions were not only seen in case of developmental delay. He accused others of seeking to incite violence, saying such actions could have put his life and the lives of his supporters in danger. “This election was being deliberately incendiary with risks among my workers or even myself, being killed If not through violence, then through inadequate interiority. It was as if they wanted to destabilise the election,” he added.
The assembly election held recently was a straight contest between Vij and the Independent candidate Chitra Sarwara who polled 52,581 votes. The gap that Vij managed to secure with Umahesh at the end is a margin of 7,277 votes whereby Vij polled 59,858 votes in total. Third place went to the Congress candidate Parvinder Pal who secured only 14,469 votes thatí gaining the party a very poor position. Whereas Omkar Singh of the INLD polled meagre 2,863 votes only The INLD had contested both the general seats of the state.
They have raised political stir in Haryana with people asking for probe into the circumstances when Vij made her allegations.
