UP Court Sentences First Convict To Life Imprisonment Under New IPC 2023 Law

Jalaun: In a first for Uttar Pradesh, Jalaun: The district court has delivered a life imprisonment order under the new Indian Penal Code 2023 which tried the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl. The court handed a life imprisonment term, along with the fine of ₹ 5,00,000 whereby out of ₹ 3,00,000 was directed to be paid to the victim as compensation. This is the second time the new law has been applied in the Uttar Pradesh state.

Incident Details and Immediate Action Taken During the Immediate Period Aftermath
The incidence happened on July 9 in a village located in the Kuthound police station area where a man known as Lallan Singh attacked a six year old girl in the afternoon. Some time after the incident the child reported the matter to her mother and the mother took her to the police station to report the case. Pursuant to the report, the criminal laws under the Indian Penal Code, IPC 2023 were enacted and without any delay the police laid charges against, arrested Singh.

(A) Authorised Officer’s Rapid Investigation and Court Proceedings
It was an extraordinarily expeditious case that only lasted 90 days at most. Lakhanlal Niranjan, the District Public Prosecutor and Brijraj Rajput, the Additional Public Prosecutor, informed of the trial conducted by Special POCSO Judge Mohammad Kamar convicted the defendant to a life sentence and guilty verdict within three months. The case got much attention from District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey and Superintendent of Police Dr. Durgesh Kumar in the legal process.

It recorded in the chargesheet filed by the NIA that it was a good time when the marriages were being held in the last year as all opted for family planning immediately.

Because the case has been deemed high priority, the police conducted their investigations and submitted the chargesheet within 16 days. According to the prosecutor as per the Indian penal code section 357 the compensation amount of ₹, 5,00,000 imposed on the convict includes compensation of ₹, 3,00,000 on behalf of the victim. This is the second time that a person has been sentenced under the new law But the Jalaun court for life imprisonment is the first case of its kind.

This case brings the case to a close without any delay and goes to show that the state is fully prepared to quickly and uncompromisingly deal with these offences under the newly modified penal code.
