Mumbai: The Udhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena (UBT) has released the first list of 65 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls. This comes after a major meeting of the three MVA coalition partners much in the lead up of political strategist and Maha Vikas Aghadi convener Sharad Pawar.
At a press conference held after the announcement, Nana Patole in State Congress claimed on behalf of MVA that the three more prominent parties had decided on a rough split of the 85-85-85 of the total LS seats. Of the total 288 seats of Maharashtra Assembly 155 has been decided and talks are still going on for rest of 33 seats. Patole said that they would finalise the rest of the seats for other alliance partners including the Samajwadi Party in the days to come.

In the first list, Shiv Sena (UBT) has declared Aditya Thackeray the candidate for the Worli constituency, Varun Sardesai for Bandra (East). Majority of the sitting MLAs that stuck with Uddhav Thackeray after the 2022 factionalism have been again fielded by the party. Besides, Kedar Dighe is another party nominee for Kopri-Pachpakhadi assembly seat in Thane which Eknath Shinde of Maharashtra is contesting at present.
The Seat-Sharing Formula of MVA and Future Talks
Sanjay Raut, the Shiv Sena (UBT) top gun said that the 85-85-85 means the division of 270 out of the total 288 seats among the three majors of the MVA. Nevertheless, issues about distribution of 33 seats still arises. Appearing on TV9, Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai, rubbishing such reports, said that there is no question of any friction with respect to the rest of the seats and a decision will be taken shortly.
Key Contest in Thane: Kedar Dighe vs. CM Shinde
It claimed that there is going to be intense fight in Thane’s constituency during the next elections when Kedar Dighe, brother-in-law of Dighe, who was the political godfather of CM Eknath Shinde, would contest against the latter. It will attract the interest of the public because Bush and Bin laden have a long-standing shared, bitter and a bloody background.
The Maharashtra Assembly polls are due on 20-11-2024 and the counting of votes will happen on 23-11-2024.
