New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has constituted an election committee to oversee the selection of its next national president. This committee will facilitate the organisation of elections at a national level. Dr K. Lakshman, the national president of the OBC Morcha and a sitting MP, has been appointed as the Chief Election Officer. Alongside him, MPs Naresh Bansal, Sambit Patra, and former MP Rekha Verma have been designated as Assistant Election Officers.
While the current president, J.P. Nadda’s term has expired, the BJP Parliamentary Board has extended his tenure until a new president is appointed. The election of the national president follows a comprehensive process outlined in the BJP’s constitution, beginning with booth-level elections, followed by those at the district and state levels.
The election officer will announce dates for these elections, which will include the election of district presidents alongside members of the state council. After these elections, the state council members will elect their respective state presidents, while national council members will be responsible for electing the national president. This entire process is expected to take around two months, with sources indicating that it will conclude by December. Following the announcement of the new national president, a meeting of the national council is likely to be convened in January for formal approval.
