Jammu and Kashmir: Omar Abdullah, the Vice President of the National Conference (NC), is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on the morning of October 16 at 11:30 AM. The ceremony will be held at S.K.I.C.C., Srinagar, where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has invited Abdullah along with his cabinet ministers and party legislators to inaugurate the new government.
In a letter released by the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha expressed his pleasure in inviting Omar Abdullah to form the government and lead it. Sinha assured that he would administer the oath of office and secrecy to Abdullah and his ministers at the specified time.
“With great pleasure, I invite you to form and lead the government in Jammu and Kashmir. As agreed, I will administer the oath of office and secrecy to you and your ministers on October 16 at 11:30 AM at SKICC, Srinagar,” the letter stated.
The Lieutenant Governor further extended his good wishes, acknowledging the efforts and successes Omar Abdullah has achieved for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. On October 11, a letter from Farooq Abdullah, President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, confirmed that Omar Abdullah had been unanimously chosen as the leader of the legislative party.
Additionally, Sinha received support letters from various political figures, including Tariq Hameed Karrra, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee; G.N. Malik, Secretary of CPI(M); Pankaj Kumar Gupta, National Secretary of the Aam Aadmi Party; and independent legislators Pyare Lal Sharma, Satish Sharma, Mohammad Akram, Rameshwar Singh, and Mujabber Iqbal Khan. These letters offered their backing for the formation of a government led by Omar Abdullah.
Prior to receiving the invitation, Omar Abdullah met with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday, presenting his support letters and asserting his claim to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir. This follows the recent lifting of President’s Rule in the state on Sunday, as notified by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
In the recent Assembly elections, the National Conference-Congress alliance emerged victorious, leading to Omar Abdullah being selected as the leader of the coalition. His appointment as Chief Minister marks a significant step towards political stabilization in the region.
