Mumbai: The Indian film industry mourns the loss of versatile actor Atul Parchure, who passed away at the age of 57. Renowned for his exceptional performances in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, Parchure had been battling cancer for several years. Although he had initially overcome the disease following treatment, he had recently resumed his work in the film industry, leaving fans and colleagues shocked by his untimely demise. The exact cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
Atul Parchure made his debut with the Marathi film R.K. Laxman Ki Duniya and quickly became a beloved figure in the industry. After recovering from cancer, he returned to the silver screen with notable roles in blockbuster Hindi films such as Salman Khan’s Partner, Saalam E Ishq, and Billu Barber. His comedic talent also shone brightly in the popular television show Comedy Nights with Kapil, where he delighted audiences with his impeccable timing and humour.
Parchure’s battle with cancer began when he returned to India from a family vacation in Australia and New Zealand. He recalled feeling nauseous and unable to eat, prompting doctors to recommend an ultrasound. “When the doctors suggested an ultrasound, I saw fear in their eyes. I knew something was seriously wrong,” he shared in a heartfelt interview. The diagnosis revealed a five-centimetre tumour in his liver, confirmed to be cancerous.
Initially, Parchure’s treatment was mishandled, exacerbating his condition. “My initial treatment was incorrect, which affected my pancreas and led to numerous complications. My health deteriorated to the point where I could barely walk and struggled to speak without stumbling,” he explained. The misguided medical advice threatened his survival, as doctors warned that surgery could result in prolonged jaundice and fluid accumulation in his liver, or even death.
Determined to fight, Parchure sought a second opinion and switched doctors, receiving the appropriate medication and chemotherapy that ultimately helped him regain his strength. “I changed my doctors and received the right treatment, including proper medication and chemotherapy,” he stated before his passing.

His ability to portray a wide range of characters with authenticity and charm made him a favourite among filmmakers and fans alike.
