Dhaka: India has expressed serious concerns over recent attacks on Hindu temples and places of worship in Bangladesh, labelling them as “heinous acts” and calling for the protection of Hindu and other minority communities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the incidents, particularly the vandalism of a Durga Puja mandap in Dhaka and the desecration of the revered Jessoreswari Kali Temple in Satkhira.
Speaking on the issue, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have expressed grave concern over the attack on the Puja mandap in Dhaka’s Tantibazar and the theft at the Jessoreswari Kali Temple in Satkhira. These despicable acts are part of a disturbing pattern, and we urge the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety and security of Hindus, minorities, and their places of worship.”
The attack on the Puja mandap involved the throwing of a crude bomb by a group of youths, though no casualties were reported. Local reports suggest the attack was a premeditated attempt to disrupt religious harmony.
Calls for Minority Protection
India’s government has urged Bangladesh to take immediate steps to protect its minority communities during this critical festive period. The MEA spokesperson reiterated, “We call on the Bangladesh government to ensure the protection of Hindus and all minorities, especially during this auspicious festival season.”
Police investigations are underway, with authorities recovering a petrol bomb near the site of the incident.
