Casting Couch Controversy: Kangana Condemns Exploitation In Film Industry

Mumbai: Actress and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspokenness, has once again shed light on the darker side of the film industry. Despite her political role as an MP from Mandi and her association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Kangana continues to address uncomfortable truths about Bollywood’s inner workings.

At a recent News18 Chaupal event, the ‘Queen’ actress made shocking revelations about the exploitation of women in the Hindi film industry. Reflecting on her own experiences and those of others, she spoke of how powerful men in the industry use their influence to exploit women, often under the guise of professional meetings.

“Do you know how these heroes exploit women? They invite them for dinner, send texts asking them to come to their homes,” Kangana said during the event. Citing her own experiences of receiving threats, she highlighted how the film industry is no safer for women than any other sector in India. “Look at the Kolkata rape case. How many rape threats have I been given myself? We know we don’t respect women, and the film industry is no exception.”

Kangana’s bold statements did not stop there. She revisited the infamous comments made by the late choreographer Saroj Khan, who had controversially justified the existence of the casting couch in the industry. Khan had once said, “Every girl tries to clean her hands. Why are people after the film industry? The government people do too. But if the film industry commits rape, it also gives bread.” Kangana condemned this attitude, underscoring the grim reality that women face in the entertainment world.

These revelations come at a time when the Malayalam cinema industry is reeling from disclosures related to the Hema Committee Report, which has exposed cases of abuse within that film community. Kangana’s comments about Bollywood have once again reignited conversations about gender inequality and exploitation in the glamorous world of Indian cinema.

Controversies Surrounding ‘Emergency’

In addition to her candid remarks about the industry, Kangana’s upcoming film ‘Emergency’ has also been the subject of controversy. Originally set for release on September 6, the political drama—where Kangana portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi—has faced backlash, particularly from the Sikh community. The film has been accused of portraying Sikhs in a negative light, leading to its release being postponed. Fans are now eagerly awaiting a new release date.

Despite the challenges, Kangana Ranaut continues to be one of the few voices in Bollywood who speaks up without fear, raising important issues about exploitation and women’s safety in the industry. Her revelations, combined with her political influence, ensure that these discussions stay in the public domain, pushing for change in an industry often cloaked in glamour.
