Ishan Kishan To Wait As Sanju Samson Gains Selectors’ Favour For Bangladesh Series

Mumbai: Sanju Samson is likely to get a place in Team India for the upcoming T20 series against Bangladesh, replacing Rishabh Pant. In a surprising yet exciting development, Samson may be given a chance to showcase his talent as the Indian selectors are reportedly planning to rest Pant after the conclusion of the Test series against Bangladesh.

Samson’s recent performances, including scoring 196 runs across four innings in the Duleep Trophy, have caught the attention of the selectors. Despite not performing well during the tour of Sri Lanka, his strong showing in domestic tournaments seems to have earned him another opportunity. The Indian selectors are likely to prioritise Samson for the three-match T20 series over other contenders like Ishan Kishan.

Ishan Kishan, despite his brilliant form in domestic competitions such as the Buchi Babu and Duleep Trophy, where he even struck a century, will reportedly have to wait longer to return to the national squad. Kishan’s next chance may come in the upcoming Irani Cup, scheduled for 1st to 5th October. However, for now, Samson appears to be the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman for the T20 matches.

Cricket fans and experts have voiced frustration over the limited chances given to Samson in Team India, despite his potential. He was part of the squad during the T20 World Cup but didn’t make the playing XI. However, he did feature in India’s tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Now, as he competes with Ishan Kishan, who has been out of the Indian squad for almost 10 months, Samson’s recent domestic form could secure his place in the upcoming series.

Following the Bangladesh series, India is set for a busy schedule, with a Test series against New Zealand followed by a five-match Test series in Australia. Given the demanding schedule, Cricbuzz reports that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are likely to be rested for the T20 series against Bangladesh. Sanju Samson could take on the responsibility of opening for India in their absence.

Additionally, Sai Sudharsan, who plays for Gujarat Titans in the IPL alongside Shubman Gill, may also get his chance in the Bangladesh series. Sudharsan and Samson could potentially form India’s opening pair for the T20s, making for an exciting prospect for fans.
