New Delhi: In a troubling incident, the YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India has reportedly been hacked, resulting in the disappearance of all its videos. When accessing the channel, users are greeted with a video from the American company Ripple Labs, promoting the cryptocurrency XRP. This unexpected content has raised concerns over the integrity of the channel, which is used to live-stream public interest hearings.
The rogue video displays a title stating, “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds to the SEC $2 Billion Fine! XRP Price Prediction,” leaving viewers puzzled and frustrated. Crucially, all previous videos, including the recent live-streamed hearing of a case involving the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, are also missing.
The Supreme Court had begun live-streaming hearings in 2018, aiming to enhance transparency in legal proceedings, especially those listed before a Constitution bench. The sudden loss of this content raises significant concerns about security and public access to judicial processes.
As of now, the identity of the hacker remains unknown, and an investigation is underway to determine how the breach occurred and to restore the channel’s content. Authorities are working to secure the platform and prevent any further unauthorized access.
