Kolkata: The investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital continues to unfold, with fresh revelations coming to light. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now scrutinising Trinamool Congress leader Ashish Pandey, as well as staff at the medical college, in connection with the case.
According to sources from ABP Ananda, Pandey was staying at a Salt Lake hotel on the night of August 9, the same evening the doctor’s body was discovered. The CBI is now examining records from the hotel to determine who checked in that night. A hotel employee has been summoned to provide the visitor’s book for further investigation.
The CBI’s interest in Ashish Pandey emerged after the examination of several mobile phones revealed his hotel stay. On Thursday, a hotel staff member arrived at the CBI office with the booking register and relevant documents, which have since been handed over to the investigative team.
Reports indicate that Ashish Pandey checked into the hotel on the night of August 9 and checked out the following morning. As the investigation progresses, the CBI is leaving no stone unturned to uncover all aspects of the case.
In a related development, newly-appointed Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma visited RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday, where he spent over 30 minutes inspecting the premises. Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Division) Deepak Sarkar, Verma toured the crime scene located on the second floor of the emergency section and held discussions with hospital authorities.
As the investigation deepens, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victim while maintaining the integrity of the inquiry process.
