Midnight Mix-Up: Bengaluru’s Bizarre Swiggy Saree Story

Bengaluru: In a humorous and unexpected turn of events, a woman in Bengaluru ordered a saree through Swiggy instead of food, leaving both the delivery boy and social media users amused. The woman, Neerja Shah, shared her experience on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where her post quickly went viral, racking up over 170,000 views.

Neerja’s post read: “I ordered a saree at @SwiggyInstamart for last-minute Onam planning.” She explained that when the delivery arrived at midnight, the Swiggy delivery boy appeared visibly surprised by the unusual request. The woman joked that the delivery person probably never imagined someone would order a saree in the middle of the night.

The post garnered numerous reactions, with many users poking fun at the situation. One user commented, “I once ordered a pressure cooker before boarding a flight, I had to take it to a friend in New York!” Another chimed in, “If someone orders a saree at midnight, it’s bound to scare the person delivering it!” Some users were reminded of the Bollywood movie Stree, while others playfully questioned, “Did you get a saree bunny?”

Despite the hilarity, Neerja also took a moment to express her gratitude to Swiggy for helping her with her last-minute Onam preparations. “Swiggy saved me in time for Onam. Now, I’ll feed them sweets in return,” she added in her post.

The festival of Onam is celebrated with much fervour across South India, particularly in Kerala. However, it is also widely observed in other southern states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. This year, the festival took place between 6 and 15 September, and it seems Neerja’s saree was a key part of her Onam festivities.

While the post generated plenty of laughs, it also showcased Swiggy’s versatility in delivering more than just food, with many praising the company for its wide range of services.
