Tampering Tragedy: Top Medical Official And Police Involved In Shocking Conspiracy

Kolkata: In a significant development in the case surrounding the rape and murder of a junior doctor, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Dr Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, on Saturday, 14 September 2024. The arrest follows allegations of tampering with evidence and criminal conspiracy connected to the tragic death of a postgraduate trainee doctor on 9 August.

According to a report by The Times of India, CBI investigators have cast doubt on Ghosh’s actions immediately following the crime, raising suspicions that the former principal was involved in a cover-up. The agency alleges that instead of promptly overseeing the response to the incident, Ghosh was notably absent from the scene. His call records suggest he had been in communication with the then in-charge of Tala police station, Abhijit Mondal, and possibly receiving directives from an unknown individual.

Ghosh reportedly arrived at the hospital only after the police had already reached the crime scene. By this time, he had engaged in multiple phone conversations with Mondal, as well as several senior officials at the hospital. The CBI is scrutinising Ghosh’s mobile phone activity, believing it may hold crucial clues to the wider conspiracy. Mondal, who has also been implicated in the investigation, is currently in CBI custody alongside Ghosh.

The handling of the crime scene has come under fire, with the CBI accusing the individuals involved of tampering with evidence. Investigators are particularly focused on the steps taken by Ghosh after learning about the incident. Ghosh claims he had immediately contacted hospital authorities and formed a three-member board of doctors to examine the situation. He further stated that all relevant information was forwarded to the Health Department, and a meeting of the Board of Doctors was convened at 5 pm that evening.

Despite his assertions, the CBI’s investigation has intensified, with suspicions that Ghosh and Mondal were complicit in manipulating the crime scene and delaying the response to the young doctor’s murder. The victim’s family, alongside several junior doctors, have been vocal in demanding justice and a thorough probe into the case.

Already under detention for financial irregularities, Ghosh now faces fresh charges that deepen the mystery surrounding the doctor’s death. As the CBI digs further into the case, both Ghosh and Mondal have been remanded in custody for three days, during which the agency will continue its interrogation to unravel the full extent of their involvement.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the CBI is determined to uncover the truth behind the conspiracy, as public pressure mounts for answers in this high-profile case.
