Mumbai: Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s blockbuster Stree 2 has achieved a remarkable feat at the box office, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan to become the highest-grossing Hindi film domestically. The horror-comedy, which has been enthralling audiences since its release on 15th August, has continued its successful run, even after a month in theatres.
On Tuesday, 17th September, Stree 2 added another crore to its total earnings, bringing its overall collection to ₹584.35 crore, according to reports by Secnilk. This latest milestone has seen the film edge past Jawan, which had amassed ₹584 crore in its Hindi version. With this, Stree 2 has claimed the top spot at the domestic box office for a Hindi film.
Stree 2, directed by Amar Kaushik, has been winning over audiences with its unique blend of horror and comedy. Film critic Taran Adarsh revealed that by Monday, 16th September, the film had already raked in ₹583.35 crore. The Tuesday collection only added to the historic total, allowing the film to surpass the previous record set by Jawan.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which was released in September 2023, enjoyed massive global success, earning ₹1,148 crore worldwide. However, in terms of its Hindi version, Jawan collected ₹584 crore, which has now been overtaken by Stree 2.
The next milestone for Stree 2 will be the ₹600 crore mark, which it is quickly approaching. The film has already shattered other records, recently surpassing the box office performances of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2.
As Stree 2 continues its triumphant run, the competition between Bollywood giants has heated up, with fans eagerly watching to see which film will emerge as the year’s ultimate winner. For now, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao can celebrate their film’s record-breaking success, firmly placing Stree 2 in the history books of Indian cinema.
