Bhajan Singer Kanhaiya Mittal Apologises, Reaffirms Support For BJP

New Delhi: Kanhaiya Mittal, the bhajan singer known for his popular song “Jo Ram Ko Laye Hain Hum Unko Laenge” during the Haryana Assembly election campaign, has reversed his earlier stance and pledged continued support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On Tuesday, Mittal issued a video message apologising for his previous statements indicating a possible shift towards the Congress.

In his video message, Mittal said, “Over the past two days, I have realised the immense love and concern that my Sanatani brothers and sisters, especially the top leadership of the BJP, have for me. I retract my statement about joining the Congress. I will remain with the BJP.”

Mittal also expressed regret for any confusion his earlier comments may have caused, stating, “I do not want to break the trust of any Sanatani. If I waver, I do not know how many others might too. We are all devoted to Lord Ram, and we shall remain so. I apologise to everyone who was disturbed by my comments. Sometimes, when you make a mistake, it is your own people who point it out. I realised I was wrong and have decided to take my words back. Thank you all, and once again, I thank the top leadership of the BJP.”

Earlier Statements Sparked Controversy

Mittal’s clarification comes after he recently expressed a “soft corner” for the Congress, stating that he had “Congress in his mind.” He had accused the BJP of misrepresenting him as a supporter and using his song during the campaign, which he claimed had caused him difficulties. At the time, Mittal hinted that more details would emerge soon, while maintaining that his loyalty seemed to lean towards the Congress.

Mittal, a prominent figure in the bhajan music community and a resident of Chandigarh, gained national attention with his song promoting the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. His statements during the Haryana Assembly election campaign reignited discussions about his political leanings, sparking speculation that his potential defection to the Congress could be a setback for the BJP.

BJP’s Efforts to Retain Mittal’s Support

The BJP moved swiftly to address Mittal’s concerns and prevent any fallout. On Tuesday, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari met with Mittal, expressing regret over any misunderstanding and seeking to reassure him of the party’s support. While Mittal is not officially affiliated with the BJP, his songs are considered to align well with the party’s narrative, and retaining his goodwill is seen as crucial.

Political observers believe that the BJP’s efforts to reconcile with Mittal have been successful, ensuring that his influence, especially among the devout Sanatani community, remains aligned with the party’s objectives.
