AAP’s Internal Rift: Leaders Question Congress Alliance Ahead Of Haryana Polls

New Delhi: Tensions are brewing within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over its proposed alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. Voices of dissent have started to emerge from within the party, with some leaders calling for a reassessment of the alliance strategy.

On Sunday, senior AAP leader Somnath Bharti raised concerns over the alliance, suggesting that the party should first evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a similar alliance formed in Delhi during the Lok Sabha elections. Bharti argued that the alliance in Delhi did not yield favourable results for AAP, highlighting that AAP leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, campaigned extensively for Congress candidates, while no reciprocal support was provided by Congress leaders.

Bharti specifically mentioned that Delhi Congress leaders, such as Arvinder Singh Lovely, left the party and joined the BJP amid the ongoing election campaign. He also pointed out that senior Congress leader Ajay Maken was uncooperative and local Congress leaders allegedly worked against the alliance by seeking votes for BJP candidates.

Further expressing discontent, Bharti claimed that AAP supporters are not in favour of what he described as a “mismatched and selfish” alliance. He urged the Aam Aadmi Party to contest all seats in Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi independently. Bharti added, “With the Congress facing massive infighting and Haryana being the home state of Kejriwal, AAP should contest all 90 seats on its own to deliver the first non-BJP and non-Congress honest government in Haryana.”

The senior AAP leader also criticised the Congress for allegedly orchestrating a “fictitious liquor scam” that provided the BJP with a pretext to arrest AAP leaders. He suggested that both the BJP and Congress work together, openly or covertly, to undermine the Aam Aadmi Party.
