Chandigarh: The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), in alliance with the Azad Samaj Party (ASP), has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. The list, announced on Wednesday, includes 19 names, with JJP leader Dushyant Chautala set to contest from the Uchana assembly seat.
The party has fielded several prominent figures, including Amarjeet Dhanda from the Julana constituency and Rajdeep Phogat from Charkhi-Dadri. In a notable move, four candidates from the Azad Samaj Party are also included in the list, reflecting the newly formed alliance’s seat-sharing strategy.
Alliance and Candidate List Highlights
The JJP has recently aligned with Chandra Shekhar’s Azad Samaj Party for the Haryana elections, with the two parties agreeing on a 70-20 seat-sharing formula. As part of this arrangement, four names from the Azad Samaj Party feature on the JJP’s first candidate list.
The list includes Dushyant Chautala’s brother, Digvijay Chautala, who has been nominated to contest from the Dabwali seat. Other candidates in the line-up include Kuldeep Malik (Gohana), Rameshwar Dayal (Bawal), Dr Ravindra Dhin (Mullana), and many more, each strategically chosen to strengthen the party’s position across Haryana.
Background of the JJP and New Alliance Dynamics
In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, the JJP won 10 seats and subsequently formed a government in coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Dushyant Chautala was appointed Deputy Chief Minister, while Manohar Lal Khattar took the role of Chief Minister. However, the alliance did not last the full term. Differences emerged over seat-sharing arrangements for the Lok Sabha elections, prompting the JJP to sever ties with the BJP.
Following this split, the BJP underwent its own internal reshuffling, appointing Nayab Singh Saini as Chief Minister. Meanwhile, the JJP forged a new partnership with the Azad Samaj Party, led by Chandra Shekhar. Leaders from both parties have expressed their commitment to addressing farmers’ issues and advancing Haryana’s development agenda.
