National Conference Kicks Off Campaign: Announces 18 Candidates for J&K Polls

Srinagar: The National Conference (NC) has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, marking a significant step as the region prepares for its first assembly polls since the abrogation of Article 370. The list, which includes candidates for 18 constituencies, notably features two Hindu candidates, signalling the party’s intent to represent the diverse demographic of the Union Territory.

Among the key constituencies, the list includes Pampore, Pulwama, Rajpora, and Shopian. The two Hindu candidates, Arjun Singh Raju and Pooja Thokur, have been given tickets for the Ramban and Pader-Nagasani constituencies, respectively.

  4. Zainpora: Shaukat Hussain Ghani
  5. Shopian: Sheikh Mohammad Rafi
  6. Noorabad: Sakina Ittoo
  7. Devsar: Peerzada Firoz Ahmed
  8. Larnoo: Chaudhry Zafar Ahmed
  9. Anantnag West: Abdul Majeed Larami
  10. Bijbehara: Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri
  11. Anantnag East: Reyaz Ahmed Khan
  12. Pahalgam: Altaf Ahmad Kaloo
  13. Bhaderwah: Mehboob Iqbal
  14. Doda: Khalid Najeeb Soharwardi
  15. Ramban: Arjun Singh Raju
  16. Banihal: Sajjad Shaheen
  17. Kishtwar: Sajjad Kitchlu
  18. Pader-Nagasani: Pooja Thokur

This announcement follows the seat-sharing agreement between the National Conference and the Congress, which will see the NC contesting 51 seats and Congress 32. The two parties have also agreed to a “friendly contest” in five constituencies, allowing for an open race in these areas. Additionally, alliance partners CPI-M and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) will contest one seat each.

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be conducted in three phases. The first phase will take place on 18 September, followed by the second on 25 September, and the final phase on 1 October.
