Bengal Blame Game: Governor and CM Clash Over Kolkata Case

Kolkata: The investigation into the horrifying rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata is becoming increasingly complex, with each new revelation only deepening the mystery. As the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) takes charge of the case, political tensions between West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have intensified, adding another layer of controversy to the ongoing probe.

The case, which has captured nationwide attention, has sparked a war of words between the Governor and the Chief Minister. Governor Bose has openly criticised Mamata Banerjee, raising questions about her handling of the case. The latest twist came when an official from the Governor’s office claimed on Thursday that a confidential letter sent by Governor Bose to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) was “refused” by the CMO.

“A confidential letter was sent to the Chief Minister’s Office last night, but the CMO refused to accept it,” the official stated, without revealing the contents of the letter. The CMO has yet to comment on the matter, leaving the public in the dark about the nature of the communication.

The Governor’s involvement in the case has been hands-on, with Bose visiting the family of the victim in North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday. After meeting with the parents of the deceased junior doctor, Bose announced his intention to write to Chief Minister Banerjee to arrange a meeting between the CM and the victim’s family.

“I came here directly from Delhi to meet the parents and understand their feelings. They told me a few things which I will keep to myself for now,” Bose told reporters. “Based on the information I have, I will write a letter today and send it to the CM in a sealed envelope.”

The case dates back to August 9, when a 31-year-old junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College was discovered raped and murdered in a seminar room. The brutal nature of the crime has shocked the nation, with widespread protests demanding justice and improved safety for women. The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the doctor’s body have been described as harrowing, further fuelling public outrage.

The unsolved nature of the case and the political conflict surrounding it have only added to the sense of urgency and demand for justice. Demonstrations have erupted not just across West Bengal but nationwide, as people call for swift action and accountability in this tragic case.
