Kolkata: The shocking incident at RG Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has ignited protests across India, drawing sharp political reactions. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the state police, with the tragic incident becoming a flashpoint for criticism.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma weighed in on the issue, comparing the law and order situation in Assam with that of West Bengal. “Look at my three-year record. The heinous crime that occurred in Kolkata—if it had happened in Assam, our government would have delivered justice immediately,” Sarma stated, reaffirming his tough stance on crime. “The state opposition may criticise my policy, but I don’t care. There will be no compromise when it comes to protecting our daughters.”
CM Sarma also highlighted measures taken by his government to ensure the safety of doctors, particularly female doctors, in Assam’s medical institutions. He expressed hope that the family of the victim, a woman trainee who was reportedly raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Medical College, receives the justice they deserve.
The incident has intensified national debate over women’s safety and governance, with Sarma’s remarks further escalating the political discourse between Assam and West Bengal.
