Dhaka: Following the formation of an interim government in Bangladesh, widespread protests have erupted in Dhaka and Chittagong, with members of the Hindu community demanding protection from escalating violence. The protesters voiced their concerns over the ongoing attacks on temples, homes, and businesses owned by Hindus across the country. The head of the new government, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, condemned the attacks as abhorrent and called on the youth to cease the violence.
In India, the situation has sparked significant concern among religious leaders. On Sunday, August 11, 2024, prominent seers and saints urged the Indian central government to take decisive action to address the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. Mahant Ravindra Puri, president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, stated that Hindus are being targeted, with temples being destroyed and establishments set on fire.
“Hindus are being attacked, their establishments burnt, and they are being killed in Bangladesh,” Mahant Ravindra Puri asserted, highlighting the gravity of the situation. Mahamandleshwar Swami Prabodhanand Giri Maharaj warned that if the attacks do not stop, India’s Sant Samaj is prepared to march to Bangladesh to protect the Hindu community.
Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani Secretary Mahanirwani Mahanirwani echoed these sentiments, urging the Indian government to take concrete steps to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh. He called for international pressure and a stern warning to be issued to the Bangladeshi government to protect its Hindu minority.
Mahamandleshwar Swami Yatindrananda Giri also raised concerns about the presence of Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslims in India, particularly in Haridwar. He called for their removal from the country, citing potential security risks.
The escalating tensions and violence in Bangladesh have drawn international attention, with calls for immediate action to protect vulnerable communities and restore peace in the region.
